• District Creates is a one-day celebration of local craft, creativity, and community brought to you by the DC Makers Guild, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the makers, artisans, and craftspeople who give the district its creative soul.
• Join us on Sunday, June 28th from 11am to 6pm for an outdoor festival at the Bridge District (633 Howard Rd SE) packed with live craftsmanship demos, a curated Maker Market, hands-on Make & Take workshops, free crafts, creative conversations, a Beer Garden, food trucks, and live music - all in one place, all made in DC.

District Creates is for the dreamers AND the doers. For the neighbor who chooses local without hesitation, the aspiring maker who's ready to take the next step, and anyone who's ever wanted to try something new with their hands. Whether you're here to shop, make, learn, sip or just soak it all in, there's a place for you at District Creates.

This is more than a festival. Every ticket purchased directly supports the DC Makers Guild and helps fund resources, programming, and community for local makers throughout the year.

District Creates Festival 

• From June 16 through July 12, the Smithsonian Folklife Marketplace is bringing together artists and makers from across the United States in a place where culture is not just displayed but actively exchanged — a living expression of craft, creativity, and community.
• Visitors can shop, attend hands-on workshops with local and visiting artists, enjoy music and interviews, as well as explore Folklife Festival history in the Storied Objects exhibition.
• The Folklife Marketplace is being put on by the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage,

Enjoy a creative moment as you form, stamp, and paint a small trinket bowl. While your project dries, paint a pendant to match!

Different stamps are available to texture and pattern your clay and a wide variety of paint colors are available so you can design each piece to fit your style.

As you work on your project, learn about the ceramics process as well as the history of pottery around the world and in the United States. Use your trinket bowl for jewelry, knick knacks, or simply custom-made decoration.

Please note, the pieces are made with air dry clay and acrylic paint, so the items are not food safe.

The workshop is open to all skill levels and is family friendly. Tickets are required for children and their accompanying adults.
